The summer is fast approaching, and we look forward to welcoming back our 490 active volunteers to a season that promises to be full of wonderful music and fun experiences.

Ever ready to answer our questions and concerns is Erin, Director of Volunteer Services, and her new summer assistant, Brenna Banas.

Brenna has worked on a variety of community service events and fundraisers. She spent two years studying social sciences and women’s health at the University of Connecticut, and then took a gap year to work in Austria. This coming winter, she plans to study at a program in Drama and English Literature at Queens’s University in Belfast, Ireland. “I cannot wait to collaborate with the volunteers on all the upcoming live music events,” she said. Welcome Brenna!

Volunteer Happenings

Hosts

As visitors enter the gates of Tanglewood, BSAV volunteers will be visible everywhere. A new volunteer position, the parking lot hosts, will be stationed in the East and West parking lots to help first-time and other visitors with electronic ticketing concerns and with directions to the Shed. Parking lot hosts will also provide new visitors with a slip of paper indicating their parking location and urge everyone to take a photograph of where they left their car. Our long-time volunteer hosts will be stationed at the gates welcoming visitors, handing out programs, and circulating around the lawn during concerts, visible with their blue shirts, and available to assist visitors who need help. A third group of volunteer hosts, information table volunteers, will be stationed at various marketing tables to answer questions. Last, and certainly not least, we have our Mobile Ticketing volunteers at the gates acting as another type of host assisting patrons with their tickets as they arrive.

Docents

Docents will be back at Tappan House this season to guide visitors through this exquisite old house and the 2023 exhibit. Anyone interested in being a Docent should contact Erin.

Tanglewood for Families

The Tanglewood for Families program this summer will be filled with fun activities for children. Every Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon craft tables, and a tattoo tent will be set up at the Theatre building between the Koussevitzky Shed and the Tappan House. There will also be lawn games when gates are open for Shed concerts and ticketed rehearsals. The children’s activities will require several volunteers. This is a seated position, and anyone interested in working with the children should sign up on the Portal. Additionally, there will be two Instrument Playgrounds for children: one on July 22 (the day of the Family Concert) and the other on August 8 (Tanglewood on Parade). The Instrument Playground will include all string and percussion instruments. Anyone able to play those instruments should contact Erin.

Unfortunately, Seranak is no longer used in the way it was, therefore the Seranak Flower Committee is on hold for the foreseeable future, along with the TMC Lunch Club program.

There are four coffee talks scheduled this season. Currently, they are full, but we encourage you to check the portal to see if any openings become available. The dates are Friday, June 30, Saturday, July 8, Friday, July 28, and Saturday, August. 5.
