Summer 2024: BSAV Record-Setting Tanglewood Volunteers

A hearty welcome back to all 2024 Tanglewood volunteers, and cheers to a season filled with wonderful music, and what we hope to be a fun-filled and sun-filled summer!

A record-setting 50+ new volunteers were accepted for the 2024 Tanglewood Summer Season which began with the Welcome Back on June 18 in the Shed. This group of individuals come from many different locations, professions, and backgrounds, and offer a great deal of knowledge and professionalism to the volunteer experience. Let’s meet some of them!

  • Ana Larkin, whose mother-in-law, Marilyn Larkin was an outstanding volunteer inspired Ana to join the BSAV following her own retirement from full-time teaching. “I love Tanglewood and have been attending concerts since I was a child, living in Pittsfield, MA. I have raised my children with the tradition of coming to Tanglewood during their summer vacation.  It has been a part of our lives.” Ana has signed up to work as a host and a tour guide.

  • Jeremy Liebowitz, a legacy volunteerwho is an executive with The Knot, the swoon-worthy event planning web serviceJeremy’s parents, Roberta and Charles, volunteered until recently and introduced him to Tanglewood. “I love being around the performing arts,” he said.  “I am currently signed up to work as a host or an usher and look forward to providing my services wherever I am needed.” Jeremy attended Tanglewood concerts when he was a youngster and played brass instruments at the time.

  • Pam Malumphy has returned as a new volunteer! Pam worked for the BSO in Boston’s Development Office for several years, and was instrumental in the campaign that raised funds for the Lindy Center. Pam grew up in Richmond, MA. “My first experience at Tanglewood was in 1973, as a child, when our family attended a James Taylor concert. I was hooked. As a new volunteer, I will be working with Erin at the BSAV office and as a greeter for groups who come to Tanglewood for a day’s adventure.”

  • Marie Felder worked as a fundraiser for Dana-Farber Cancer Center in Boston, and as the Director of Development for the New England Public Media local affiliate in Springfield. She also served as a consultant in development for the United Way at the Breen Center. “Volunteers are tethered to every phase of an organization, and I look forward to volunteering at Tanglewood.”

  • Scott Nugal, who has lived in Pittsfield all his life and has attended concerts at Tanglewood since 1978, has joined the BSAV as a host, handing out programs at the gates and answering patron questions at the information tables. He also hopes to work in the Gift Shop with his cousin, who is a volunteer. “Now that I am fully retired from work, I will have the time for volunteering at Tanglewood, something I have looked forward to for a long time.”

  • Roderick Thompson has been a seasonal Berkshire resident and an active volunteer at the Berkshire Theatre Group.  He is a Professional Appraiser and restores antiques. Roderick taught Appraisal Studies at New York University, speaks fluent French, and has been travelling since he was 18.  “I look forward to my work as a volunteer usher or host, and after talking with Erin, I am very excited about joining the BSAV.”

The BSAV organization is fortunate to have such a diverse group of new volunteers who will add strength and vitality to the organization. Volunteer tasks include Ambassadors; brochure distribution throughout Berkshire County; working in the Glass House gift shops; Hosts at the Information Table, gates, and/or parking lots; Ushers in the Shed and Ozawa Hall; Docents in the Tappan House; and Tour Guides. Volunteers are required to serve a minimum of 20 hours during a season, but many will exceed the minimum.
