Quarter Notes

Secretary's Notes

Read the Secretary's Notes from the August 18, 2022 BSAV Executive Committee meeting.

Chair Bob Braun announced that succeeding Susan Price as Vice-Chair, Tanglewood will be Nancy Finn, who will also continue on as a Quarter Notes author. Susan Muraczyk will succeed Nancy as Co-Chair, Tanglewood Membership Administration. Succeeding Beverly Pieper as Secretary will be Lisa Mafrici. In appreciation for their service, Susan and Beverly were presented with a gift of the latest BSO recording.

Both in Boston and Tanglewood, projects are in the process of either returning, coming back modified (such as Symphony Shop only being a pop-up during Pops concerts), and some are on hold until the future.

Various ideas for community building within the BSAV were discussed for the future, especially in Boston. These could be the equivalent of Coffee Talks or activities such as meeting after hours on several Mondays with smaller groups and topics inclusive of music theory lessons. The reception of Zoom trainings has been positive and will continue.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion activities are expanding. Discussions are underway for Vice President, Talent and Equity, Sandra St. Fleur Wright, to provide training for volunteers, and Erin hopes to brainstorm ideas with her in the fall.

Maureen Flores, Chief Development Officer, thanked all volunteers for what they do. She discussed the necessity of adapting to needs for both Tanglewood and Boston. The Tanglewood financial goals for the year have been met . Work is being done on how to attract audience members both familiar with the symphony, and also new to the Symphony. She noted that the BSO must be nimble and reinvent activities to meet future challenges, focusing on the health and safety of patrons, the orchestra, and the staff. Volunteer feedback is an important part of the process of meeting these challenges.
