Meet the New Boston Volunteers!

Get to know the BSAV's nine new volunteers with Cassandra Gordon.

The BSO opened its 140th season in September after an 18-month hiatus, and the BSAV is back to celebrate the return and assist music lovers in having a welcoming reentry to Symphony Hall. Meet our 9 new volunteers.

Of first notice in the Hall and Café are the exquisite flowers arrangements. Nancy McCusker and Kristen Corman have joined the Café Flowers committee, and thankfully so.

Nancy retired in 2013 from IBM after 30 years. She is a serial volunteer, serving at Trustees of the Reservation, various libraries as an ESL instructor, and the Canton Food Pantry. She is enjoying her newest “gig” with the BSAV. Her other interests include clay and fabric projects. Kristen Corman has also brought her green thumb to the Hall. A retired New York dancer with a long touring career, she came to Boston to pursue her doctorate in both English literature and cognitive science. She has adopted the Fenway green spaces as her home.

Alanna Ferri and Natsumi Malloy are musicians! Alanna has taught trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba, clarinet, flute, and violin at the Instrument Playground since 2012. Her day job is an Electronics Packaging Engineer at Draper in Cambridge. She is now a Host at the Hall and wants to begin training as a tour guide soon.

Natsumi Malloy, originally from Japan, is an organist at places in and around Boston. She loves to hike and watch movies.

Emily Reynolds (and her three daughters)

Emily Reynolds is no stranger to the BSO. She has been a behind-the scenes veteran of the BSO for a decade, working in Development for the BSO in Major Gifts, Planned Giving, and Donor Information Systems. She left the BSO in 2018 to raise her three young girls, and currently lives in Dedham. Emily is looking forward to reconnecting with music and the BSO through the BSAV.

Rachel Lieberman and Yoojin Chung adore classical music and have attended many BSO performances. Yoojin is a scientist and engineer in biotech. Born in South Korea, she has lived in Boston for 20 years, and first became interested in classical music as a student taking advantage of the BSO College Card. She enjoys gardening, cycling, and yoga. Rachel Lieberman lives in Salem and has always loved attending the symphony, so becoming a volunteer was a natural progression. Now retired, she loves Scrabble, travel, and working in film sound and scoring.

Brandon Lee and Kay Tabbarah join the BSAV this season. Brandon hails from California and is a researcher studying Lyme Disease at MIT Department of Biological Engineering. He has joined as a Host, welcoming people into the Hall. He is also working on polishing up his piano skills! Kay Tabbarah has just relocated to Boston from Washington. She calls herself a “music appreciator” and has been affiliated with the LA Philharmonic and a supporter of the Kennedy Center.

What a great group of new volunteers! I hope to meet all of you non-virtually and welcome to the BSAV family soon.
