A Message from the BSAV Chair
Hello, Fellow Volunteers,
As I write this, we are in the midst of our “transition time.” As we think of the conclusion of our Symphony Hall season, we are simultaneously looking ahead to the start of our Tanglewood season.
On Monday, May 22, we gathered at Symphony Hall for the BSAV Boston Recognition Event.
The program recognized BSAV leadership, service, and special awards. We also heard from BSO leadership and guest speaker Benjamin Markham, President of Studio A Acentech, who explained why Symphony Hall is so significant and wonderful acoustically, concluding with a demonstration of the organ. The evening ended with a taco dinner in Higginson. If you are a Symphony Hall volunteer who was not able to attend, I hope to see you a year from now at the next recognition meeting! The first major event for the Tanglewood corps was our BSAV Welcome Back on Wednesday, June 21 when volunteers heard from BSAV leadership and BSO staff, and also received volunteering credentials for the season. Please note that some projects have started earlier. For example, the brochure distribution team has been out and about in the Berkshires, supplying brochures to many constituencies. And, pre-BSO events and concerts in Ozawa Hall, which began in May, required ushers. In early May, Erin sent an email identifying a few projects that could use additional volunteer staffing, and there’s been a good response to that request. Expect to hear more about open volunteer slots as we get closer to the opening of the season and throughout the season.
The upcoming Tanglewood season features a wide range of concerts and performers, and periodically additions to the program are made. For example, Jackson Browne was added to the Popular Artist series, scheduled to perform August 31. I’m sure the Tanglewood volunteers are enthusiastically looking forward to the summer. See you on campus!
