Scott Burnham

Scott Burnham is Distinguished Professor of Music at the Graduate Center, City University of New York and Scheide Professor of Music History Emeritus at Princeton University, where he taught from 1989 to 2016. He is perhaps best known for his books Beethoven Hero (1995), a study of the values and reception of Beethoven’s heroic-style music, and Mozart’s Grace (2013), an exploration of beauty in the music of Mozart. More recently, he co-edited Ways of Hearing (2021), a collection of creative responses to music by various interdisciplinary voices.
