Matthew Guerrieri is a musician and writer. For many years, he regularly wrote about music and culture for the Boston Globe and The Washington Post; his articles also appeared in Vanity Fair, The American Scholar, Playbill, Musical America, and Slate magazines. He is the author of The First Four Notes: Beethoven’s Fifth and the Human Imagination (Alfred A. Knopf, 2012), and a monograph on Doctor Who for Obverse Books’ Black Archive series. A former fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center, he remains active as a professional classical performer. He lives in Illinois.
