Jared Werlein
About
Bass-baritone Jared Werlein, from the Bay Area, California, graduated from the Juilliard School in 2024 with his master's degree. That same year Werlein attended Opera Theatre Saint Louis' Gerdine Young Artist Program. While there, he performed the roles of Customs House Officer in La Boheme, the Sergeant in Il Barbiere Di Siviglia, and Cardinal Three in Philip Glass’s Galileo Galilei. He also covered the roles of Don Basilio in Il Barbiere Di Siviglia and Achilla in Julius Caesar.
Werlein has attended multiple young artist programs including Music Academy of the West in 2023 where he performed the roles of Benoit and Alcindoro in their production of La Boheme, and the Chautauqua Opera Conservatory for their 2018, 2019, and 2022 seasons. There, Werlein performed the role of Leporello in Don Giovanni, Peter Quince in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Bellomy in The Fantasticks by Harvey Schmidt.
While at Juilliard, Werlein performed the roles of Gus O’Neill in Later That Same Evening by Musto, and Mercurio in Handel’s Atalanta for their 2023-24 season. He also covered Sodbuster in Mazoli’s Proving Up in 2023, and the role of Nanni in Haydn’s L'Infedelta Delusa in 2022.
Werlein will join Deutsche Oper Berlin for the 2024-25 season as a member of their ensemble. There, he will be performing more than a dozen supporting roles throughout the season including Harasta in Cunning Little Vixen, Zuniga in Carmen, and the Mandarin in Turandot. He will also be making his Korean National Opera debut as Ashby in La Fanciulla del West.
