Federica Lombardi is one of the most sought-after sopranos of the younger generation, especially for the major soprano roles in the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
At the beginning of the 2024-25 season, she makes her house debut at the Lyric Opera Chicago in the role of Contessa Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. She also makes her role debut at the Vienna State Opera in the title role of Bellini’s opera Norma. She returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Contessa Almaviva and Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte. Further plans include Verdi’s Luisa Miller at the Valencia Opera as well as Simon Boccanegra in Amsterdam.
She has sung Mimì in La bohème in New York and Valencia, Donna Anna in New York and Donna Elvira in Vienna, Hamburg, Madrid and at the Salzburg Festival. In 2022, she made her debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London as Contessa Almaviva, a role she has also sung at the state operas in Munich and Berlin. Further highlights include her performances as Elettra in Idomeneo in New York and at La Scala in Milan, Vitellia in La clemenza di Tito at the Vienna State Opera, Fiordiligi at the Berlin State Opera, Turin, Valencia, and Rome, and the title role in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena at La Scala in Milan and at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. In 2020, she recorded her first Desdemona in Otello for Sony Classical alongside Jonas Kaufmann under Antonio Pappano. In 2022, she was Mimì in the film version of Puccini’s La bohème, a production by Rai Cultura in collaboration with the Opera in Rome.
Lombardi is also in great demand as a concert singer. She has sung Mozart’s Requiem in Rome, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in Naples and Venice, Verdi’s Requiem in Amsterdam and Zurich and at the Verdi Festival in Parma. She appeared with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra in a Rossini program.
In 2019, she was awarded the Franco Abbiati Prize by the Association of Italian Music Critics as the best singer for her outstanding interpretations of Mozart roles on Italy’s major stages.
