Donnell LaRoque Patterson completed high school at the North Carolina School of the Arts in his home state. He earned a B.M. in piano/music education from New England Conservatory and graduate degrees from the University of South Florida (Conducting) and Harvard University (Technology in Education). Donnell has taught music in the Cambridge and Boston public schools. In Boston, Donnell was Program Director of the Roland Hayes Music Divisions before assuming his current position as music director of the Belmont Hill School. He was the Minister of Music at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Cambridge for 34 years. Donnell is the Millennium Gospel Choir's founding director, performing annually at the Museum of Fine Arts. He travels extensively with metro-Boston choirs, sharing a new song and joyful voices of inspiration.
