A former member of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Benjamin Wright joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra trumpet section in July 2002 and became second trumpet in 2010. While a student in Cleveland, Wright won the International Trumpet Guild and National Trumpet competitions, as well as the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition, and was awarded the Bernard Adelstein Prize for trumpet performance upon graduating. Wright has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra. In 2006, he performed as guest principal trumpet with the San Francisco Symphony in performances of Mahler's Symphony No. 8. From 2006-2009 he was acting assistant principal trumpet of the BSO and Boston Pops. Wright has given masterclasses at the Manhattan School of Music and Interlochen Center for the Arts and has served as a faculty member for the Bar Harbor Brass and National Orchestral Institute. He is on the faculty of New England Conservatory, Tanglewood Music Center, and Boston Conservatory.
