About

Andrey Boreyko concluded his successful tenure as music and artistic director of Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra at the end of the 2023-24 season. Over his five seasons there, his inspiring leadership raised the standard and profile of the orchestra, with which he toured extensively across Europe, Asia, and the U.S., in addition to regular appearances at the Penderecki Festival, Beethoven Easter Festival, and Chopin & His Europe Festival. Their numerous recording projects together include an interesting variety of lesser-known repertoire such as Giya Kancheli's Libera me, Penderecki's Christmas Symphony No. 2, Kletzki's Sinfonietta in E minor, and Szymanowski's Mythes and Masques.

A regular guest at the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Boreyko returned in the 2024-25 season to conduct Shostakovich’s monumental Babi Yar Symphony No. 13 . This performance followed his hugely successful performance of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 in the 2022-23 season , which he paired with the world premiere of Elena Langer's The Dong with a Luminous Nose and the U.K. premiere of Victoria Vita Polevá Nova.

Other 2024-25 highlights included performances with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra with Julia Fischer, and concerts at the Vienna Konzerthaus and Festival der Nationen in Bad Wörishofen. With the Antwerp Symphony, Boreyko celebrated Giya Kancheli’s 90th anniversary in a special subscription program featuring the composer’s Libera Me (Quasi-Requiem) and Prokofiev's Symphony No. 3. 2024-25 guest engagements elsewhere also included with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Hamburg State Philharmonic Orchestra, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart Philharmonic, and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, with which Boreyko performed Zemlinsky's The Mermaid alongside Mahler's Five Songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn with Thomas Hampson. Following the success of his Asia tour with the Warsaw Philharmonic, Boreyko returned to Tokyo in June 2025 to conduct Shostakovich's Symphony No. 11 with the New Japan Philharmonic.

Boreyko remains a much-liked guest of such ensembles as the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, RTVE Symphony Orchestra in Madrid, and Prague Symphony Orchestra, having also returned in recent seasons to Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Gürzenich Orchester Köln, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, RAI National Symphony Orchestra, and Valencia Orchestra. During his time as resident conductor of Orchestra Sinfonica de Milano between 2022-2024, Boreyko conducted numerous subscription concerts and several high-profile performances including season-opening gala concerts at the Teatro alla Scala, and Maher’s Resurrection Symphony at the Mahler Festival.

In 2022, Boreyko concluded his eighth and final season as music director of Artis-Naples. Previous appointments include music director positions of the Jenaer Philharmonie, Hamburg Symphony, Berner Sinfonieorchester, Düsseldorf Symphoniker, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestre National de Belgique.
