The Festival of Contemporary Music has been endowed in perpetuity by the generosity of Dr. Raymond H. and Mrs. Hannah H. Schneider, with additional support from the Fromm Music Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, the Amphion Foundation, Inc., and the Alice M. Ditson Fund at Columbia University.

The TMC Festival of Contemporary Music seeks to showcase up-and-coming, path-finding, and groundbreaking contemporary composers whose works we believe will define the next evolution of classical music.

This concert is a exploration of cultures and styles from Cuba to China. Composer Dai Wei’s Partial Men — arranged for electronics, string quartet and throat singer — is, in the composer’s words, an expression of gratitude for those who donate their organs to save others’ lives. The piece is a dynamic, almost cinematic exploration of the emotions and tensions that occur around major medical decisions.
