Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Boston Performance Tour

Symphony Hall

Symphony Hall, Boston, MA

A program of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) Education Department, the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (RPYO) in association with the Eastman Community Music School is the premier youth orchestra in the Greater Rochester area. Under the leadership of RPO Assistant Conductor, Jherrard Hardeman, these students rehearse and perform challenging repertoire in an environment that emphasizes artistic growth, teamwork, and a deep appreciation for orchestral music.

Comprised of the region’s finest students from grades 8 to 12, RPYO offers rigorous training on the campus of one our country’s top conservatories, the Eastman School of Music. Weekly rehearsals, coaching by RPO musicians, an annual Side-by-Side Concert with the entire RPO, concerts in Rochester’s major performance halls, and periodic trips or other special activities provide musically rich and personally rewarding experiences.

Since 1970, more than 2,100 RPYO students have experienced the challenges and rewards of learning symphonic masterworks while playing in the RPYO. More than 200 of them have performed in professional music ensembles, including other major symphony orchestras. Six RPYO alumni currently perform with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Many others perform in semi-professional and community groups in diverse musical genres. Hundreds have become dedicated music educators (more than 30 in Rochester area schools), as well as composers, conductors, and arts administrators.

RPYO is more than just an orchestra; it is a community where young musicians can grow, learn, and inspire one another. With a rich history and a bright future, the RPYO continues to nurture the next generation of musical leaders, fostering a lifelong love of music and performance.

This performance is free and does not require a ticket.
