Richard Sebring was named principal horn of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in April 2023. He joined the BSO horn section in 1981 and was named associate principal horn and principal horn of the Boston Pops Orchestra the following year. He was previously principal horn of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Born and raised in Concord, Massachusetts, Sebring studied at Indiana University, New England Conservatory of Music, University of Washington, and Tanglewood Music Center. He has been soloist with the BSO and the Boston Pops in Boston, at Tanglewood, and on tour. As a studio musician, his horn work is heard regularly in popular music, on PBS, and in films. His arrangements of holiday and ceremonial music have been played by the Boston Pops in Symphony Hall and at Fenway Park. Sebring teaches at New England Conservatory of Music and Tanglewood Music Center. As the BSO’s principal horn, he is also a member of the Boston Symphony Chamber Players.
