Beethoven & Romanticism

Step into the world of Beethoven — not just as a listener, but as a participant. Explore and experience the life, times, and inner mind of one of music’s greatest revolutionaries. This is more than just a series of concerts; it’s an immersive festival that invites you to see music evolve before your very eyes. From Beethoven's early explorations with symphonies to his groundbreaking Ninth, you’ll uncover how his defiance, struggles, and triumphs continue to resonate, asking us: What does his music mean for us today? What does it mean to create music when you can’t hear?

These weeks are about listening and connecting. Dive deeper into Beethoven’s story through immersive discussions, exhibits, and opportunities to engage with the Deaf community, honoring how Beethoven himself shattered barriers.

On this journey, you’ll uncover the stories behind the iconic themes and see Beethoven like you’ve never seen him before. Gain a richer sense of how his music speaks to all of us, in every era, and why his music is — and always will be — utterly timeless.

Students are invited to submit a video recording of them playing a single movement of a Beethoven Sonata of their choice for consideration. The master class will be open for the public to observe and is planned for Saturday, January 25 from 4 – 5:30 p.m.
