BSO and City of Boston Celebrate Seiji Ozawa’s 85th Birthday
Despite retiring in 2002, BSO Music Director Laureate Seiji Ozawa has never been far from the hearts and minds of those who remember his 29-year BSO tenure with fondness. In honor of Ozawa’s 85’s birthday, City of Boston Mayor Marty Walsh proclaimed September 1, 2020 as Seiji Ozawa Day in Boston. “For me, Boston is my second home,” Maestro Ozawa responded. “I love and miss all my colleagues and friends at the Boston Symphony Orchestra, who I still think are like my family.” His BSO family reciprocated his loving thoughts, joining together to wish him a happy birthday through a video tribute shared on the BSO’s social media channels, seen here above.
