About the Music

James Levine leads this all-Ravel program to start the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s 2007-08 season, with pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet performing the sparkling, jazz-tinged Piano Concerto in G in these concerts. The program opens with two brief tone poems of contrasting character: the whimsical Alborada del gracioso and the solemnly elegant Pavane for a Dead Princess. Closing the program is the Suite No. 2 from Ravel’s popular ballet score Daphnis et Chloé.
