"Oscar and Tony"
A New Boston Pops Recording
[POPS] Oscar and Tony features Mr. Lockhart leading the Boston Pops Orchestra in the most enduring music from Academy Award-winning films and Tony Award-winning musicals, including such stage and silver-screen standards as “42nd Street” from the musical of the same name, “All That Jazz” from Chicago, and “Chim-Chim-Cheree” from Mary Poppins. The Tanglewood Festival Chorus, John Oliver, conductor, joins the Pops for “Immolation” (With Our Lives, We Give Life) from John Williams’ Oscar-winning score to Schindler’s List. The Pops’ Oscar and Tony album also includes musical selections from Around the World in 80 Days, Ben-Hur, Out of Africa, Lawrence of Arabia, Titanic, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King – all of which have won Academy Awards for Best Score and Best Picture. The Tony Award-winning tracks on the Pops’ next album include the overtures from The Phantom of the Opera, The Producers, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying – all winners of the Best Musical award. Two tracks on the album pay tribute to beloved tales that earned the honors of both Best Musical and Best Picture: My Fair Lady and The Sound of Music.
The hour-long album was recorded on May 19 and 21, 2007, at Symphony Hall in Boston. A complete listing of Oscar and Tony tracks is available below.
